South Australian Outback Tours 2021

South Australian Outback Tours 2021

Dear Coates Travellers,

We are grateful that Australia-based travel is now becoming more accessible and reliable. It is great to be getting back out there again, seeing some incredible wildlife, enjoying the open roads and simply being out in nature.

For those of you ready to get back out there, we still have places available on two of our exciting small group, outback expeditions to South Australia.

Both tours visit Lake Eyre, Wilpena Pound, Coober Pedy and Muloorina Station.

Lake Eyre is Australia’s largest salt lake, crossing three state borders and home to the lowest natural point in Australia; Wilpena Pound is an iconic Australian landmark found in the heart of the Flinders Ranges, described as a natural amphitheatre which covers over 8000 hectares; Coober Pedy is a unique and memorable opal mining town where homes, hotels and churches are built below-ground (‘dugouts’); and Muloorina Station lies on the banks of the Frome river and is great place for spotting wildlife.

Our South Australia, Lake Eyre & the Flinders Ranges tour from Alice Springs to Adelaide includes an unforgettable visit to Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary in the Northern Flinders Ranges. This sanctuary is home to the shy and endangered Yellow-Footed Rock-Wallaby, and while here we will take part in the spectacular Ridge Top Tour. This tour travels through beautifully rugged outback country and ends at the magnificent Sillers Lookout offering breathtaking views of the ranges and beyond, where you can enjoy a cuppa and sweet treat.

Our South Australian Outback trip from Adelaide to Alice Springs on the other hand, takes the Birdsville, Strzelecki and Oodnadatta desert tracks; some of the best outback drives in the country. We will visit iconic outback towns Innaminccka and Birdsville, and the historical sites of explorers Burke and Wills (the first Europeans to cross Australia from south to north) including gravesites and the Dig Tree.
