13 Day Borneo Wildlife Tour

Join leading naturist Kevin Coate and explore this wonderful natural history paradise with its rugged landscapes and diverse wildlife in some of the most magnificent rainforest on earth. We will see the amazing threatened Orang-Utans and enter the domain of many wonderful mammals and insects, including another threatened primate, the bizarre Proboscis Monkey.

Orangutans

Our overnight flight from Australia takes us to Kota Kinabalu, in Sabah from where we leave the following day to travel over the ridges of the Crocker Range to the foothills of Mt Kinabalu, home to some of the 24 species of flowering rhododendrons, 10 species of carnivorous pitcher plants, estimated 1,400 species of orchids, over 600 species of ferns, more than 40 species of oak trees and over 300 species of birds.

We will visit the special Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre which was established in 1964 to help once captive or displaced Orang-utans learn to fend for themselves back in the wild . You will not be able to help but fall in love with the wide-eyed and bewildered little orphan Orangs, which are regularly taken into care and exemplify the scale of the problem faced by the Centre, as adult apes are ruthlessly slain to facilitate the felling of more trees.

Heading up the Kinabatangan River to the Sukau Rainforest Lodge we spend three nights exploring the surrounding rainforest and taking jungle boat rides in search of the wildlife. We will hope to see our first Orang-utan in the wild along with some of the 10 primate species including Gibbons and the comic looking Proboscis Monkeys .

Another highlight will be a visit to the Borneo Rainforest Lodge which is located beside the Danum River on the edge of 438 sq. km of undisturbed lowland rainforest. The Lodge is home to the full range of Sabah's lowland fauna, including the rare Sumatran Rhinoceros, Elephants, Clouded Leopards, and Orang-utans. So far some 275 species of birds have been recorded in the area.
