16 Day Bhutan Wildlife & CultureTour

Accommodated Tour

A flight from Bangkok to Paro by Druk Air with a breathtaking view of Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga and other famous Himalayan peaks is the prelude to a comprehensive 16 day tour of this last Shangri-la escorted by Kevin Coate and a knowledgeable local guide. We will take you through the prime botanical and birdwatching sites in Bhutan and pave the way to the natural richness of this eastern Himalayan region.

The Land of the Dragon, as Bhutan is known to its inhabitants has always been the most fiercely independent Himalayan kingdom and is as individual as a country can be. A country of which few people have visited, Bhutan is one of the last strongholds of Tibetan Buddhism and its peaceful and fun loving people are proud and elegant with a timeless culture and dress.

Vast dzongs - beautiful medieval buildings that incorporate a monastery, village and forte in one dot the countryside along with chortens - shrines and ihakhans -temples. A highlight of the tour will be a visit to the magnificent Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest) near Paro Other cultural highlights include; weekend market in Thimphu and a local farm house visit in Paro.

Bhutan has been rated as one of the “top ten global hot spots” of the world due to its pristine nature which serves as a habitat for a diverse range of flora and fauna. The date for the tour was chosen as this is one of the best times of the year for flowering plants and to view the birds after nestling out freely from the the cold winter months.

An estimated 770 species of birds inhabit the unspoiled forests, who's trees are clothed in spectacular epiphytic orchids, lichens ferns and mosses. It also harbours some the the most exotic species of the eastern Himalayas with over 50 species of rhododendron along with an an amazing variety of medicinal plants and magnolias. The valleys and even the roadside verges are home to colourful herbaceous perennials from mauve primulas to blue poppies and sweet smelling shrubs.
