About Us

Tours offering spectacular and diverse natural history - flora, fauna, Aboriginal art, culture & walking...

COATES WILDLIFE TOURS is family owned and the first company in Western Australia to operate authentic nature-based tours over such a wide area. We have brought together a selection of the finest natural history tours available in Western Australia and beyond.

In February 1985 Kevin Coate registered the trading name Coates Wildlife Tours and commenced a long tradition of offering quality, nature based tours in Australia. During the past eleven years we have introduced, through Coates Tours, a wider range of tours including many international wildlife expeditions.

As an ongoing commitment to you in providing new and exciting nature tours we have sourced a range of some of the best natural history tours from around the world and have chosen trips from companies that have a similar ethos to Coates and operate their tours to the same high standard that our passsengers have come to expect.

With the Early Bird / Group Booking Discounts on a selection of tours being well received we have decided to keep these offers in place and they will continue during 2010. Details of all discounts are shown on the website.

GREAT DESTINATIONS

We continue to offer tours that let you experience nature in small groups and allow plenty of time and flexibility to pursue individual interests. Our relaxed itineraries offer in depth interpretation of the natural world with minimal negative impact on the environment.

We again return to our most popular destinations, the Kimberley and Pilbara regions in the north, the Kennedy Ranges and Mt Augustus in the mid west and various areas through the south of Western Australia. We also revisit Lord Howe, Cocos & Christmas Islands. New tours for 2010 include: South Australian Outback Expedition; Carnarvon Range Expedition and Tanami Road Camping Expedition and Kenya and Tanzania Wildlife Safari. Also, don't forget to register your interest in our new trips under development - India - Wildlife & Culture and Dirk Harthog Island and the Coral Coast In Depth....

GREAT LEADERS

Our dedicated natural history leaders have a wealth of knowledge and experience. Their enjoyment and understanding for natural history including birds, fauna and flora is reflected in their own unique styles of interpretative leadership. It is the quality and personality of our leaders that greatly contribute to the success of our tours.

GREAT COMPANY

Find out how much more rewarding the touring experience can be when you travel with a small group of like-minded people, who share your love for the natural world.

Group sizes are dependent on the destination and type of trip being undertaken but generally range between 6 - 14 passengers.

GREAT EVENINGS

Our policy of providing two crew on camping tours, to carry on the campsite duties means that there is no need for you to participate in the usual kitchen work rosters. Simply set up your tent, and then relax in the company of your fellow travellers. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the night as you sit around, a warming camp fire, recapping the days adventures.

GREAT FOOD

A resourceful camp cook (with groups of seven or more) accompany all safari tours. He/She will ensure that fresh local produce and ingredients are always used when available. Passengers are always pleasantly surprised at the variety and quality of the meals prepared by our cooks under sometimes difficult conditions.

Three meals each day plus morning tea (unless otherwise specified in the itinerary) are included. We also ensure there is a plentiful supply of fresh fruit available in the vehicle throughout the day. With prior notice most special dietary requirements can be catered for.

GREAT EQUIPMENT

Transport is provided by Land cruisers, a custom designed and built air-conditioned 4-wheel drive vehicle fitted with all front facing, seat belted, mostly reclining seats (or mini bus whichever is appropriate for the tour). Our safari vehicles are also fitted with long-range high frequency radios and recovery gear in case an emergency should arise.

For camping tours we supply all the quality camping equipment that you will need to make your camping experience comfortable:- Large comfortable camp stretchers or self inflating mattresses, camp chairs with arms and easy to erect dome tents which are large, light and waterproof. All eating utensils and crockery are provided. All you need to bring is your own pillow and sleeping bag. Even sleeping bags can be hired.

We hope you will join us on tour soon and look forward to sharing some amazing experiences with you.
