Tours offering spectacular and diverse natural history -flora, fauna, Aboriginal paintings and culture.
Coates is family owned and the first company in Western Australia to operate authentic nature-based tours over such a wide area. We have brought together a selection of the finest natural history tours available in Western Australia and beyond.
Since 1980, when naturalist, Kevin Coate founded Coates Wildlife Tours and pioneered the inception of nature-based tours in Western Australia, Coates Wildlife Tours have offered tours that let you experience nature in small groups and allow plenty of time and flexibility to pursue individual interests. Our relaxed itineraries offer in depth interpretation of the natural world with minimal negative impact on the environment.
We again return to our most popular destinations, the Kimberley and Pilbara regions in the north, the Kennedy Ranges and Mt Augustus in the mid west and various areas through the south of Western Australia. We also revisit the Queensland outback and Lord Howe Island in the South Pacific. Our international tours include Galapagos, Ecuador and Sri Lanka. New tours for 2005 include a Perth to Broome trip and a camping tour to Kangaroo Island and the Eyre Peninsular.
Our dedicated naturalist leaders have a wealth of knowledge and experience. Their enjoyment and understanding of natural history including birds, fauna and flora is reflected in their own unique styles of interpretive leadership. It is the quality and personality of our leaders that greatly contribute to the success of our tours.
Find out how much more rewarding the touring experience can be when you travel with a small group of like-minded people, who share your love for the natural world. Group sizes are usually between 10-15 passengers.
Our policy of providing two crew to carry out the campsite duties means that there is no need for you to participate in the usual kitchen work rosters. Simply set up your tent, and then relax in the company of your fellow travellers. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the night as you sit around a warming campfire, recapping the days adventures.
A resourceful camp cook (with groups of seven or more) accompanies all safari tours. They will ensure that fresh local produce and ingredients are always used when available. We are proud of our catering. Passengers are always pleasantly surprised at the variety and quality of the meals prepared by our cooks under sometimes difficult conditions.
As well as three meals each day and morning teas (unless otherwise specified in the itinerary), we also ensure there is a plentiful supply of fresh fruit available in the vehicle throughout the day. With prior notice most special dietary requirements can be catered for.
Transport is provided by a custom designed and built air-conditioned 4-wheel drive vehicle fitted with all front facing, seat belted, mostly reclining seats (or mini bus which ever is appropriate for the tour). Our safari vehicles are also fitted with longrange high frequency radios in case an emergency should arise.
For camping tours we supply all the quality camping equipment that you will need to make your camping experience comfortable - self inflating mattresses and camp chairs with arms. The dome tents are large, light, waterproof and easy to erect. All eating utensils and crockery are provided. All you need to bring is your own pillow and sleeping bag. Even sleeping bags can be hired.
