We begin this fascinating Indian Ocean experience by spending time on Christmas Island, a true naturalist’s paradise.
Coates Wildlife Tours have been taking groups to Christmas Island for over 14 years, and our lucky participants have sighted many bird species that are new to Australia. These have been added to the island’s bird list.
The island is also renowned for its unique land crabs. Our tour is timed to coincide with the migration of the Christmas Island red crabs, which takes place in November. This is a truly spectacular event to witness, lauded by Sir David Attenborough as one of the world’s greatest wildlife spectacles.
After exploring Christmas Island, we visit some of the islands that make up the Cocos group. These islands are notable for their diverse bird and marine life. The islands also have a colourful history that is sure to capture your imagination.
