At Coates Wildlife Tours, we offer a personalised approach to travel within outback Australia and all around the wider world. As part of our commitment to customer satisfaction, we take smaller groups than most tour companies, allowing you to form friendships with like-minded people that will last long after the tour is over.
A naturalist guide accompanies all of our tours, to ensure that you not only see the striking landscapes and wildlife of our exciting destinations, but also receive in-depth interpretation and factual information about the plants, animals and birds you see.
At Coates we make it easy for you to see what you want to see. Our itineraries are flexible, allowing you the opportunity to pursue your individual interests. All of the hard work is done for you – our itineraries are designed in consultation with our naturalist guides to ensure you see all of the best locations, we’ll even take you to the spots only the locals know about!
In addition to our comprehensive and enjoyable itineraries, on Coates tours you always have the support you need. Your accommodation is booked, your meals are cooked, morning tea and snacks are provided and there are no pots and pans to wash at the end of a long day!
Coates Wildlife Tours is a West Australian, family owned business that has specialised in nature tours for over 25 years. Do join us on tour and allow us to share our expertise and passion for the wonders of the natural world with you.
When you join a Coates tour, you can relax in the knowledge that your tour will have a strong focus on the natural history of the region you’re visiting. Our tour program is constructed in close consultation with our naturalist guides and our customers, to ensure our tour destinations are among the best examples of the beauty and diversity of the natural world.
As we are a Western Australian company, many of our tours focus on the distinctive regions of this unspoiled state. Along with outback travel within Australia, our most popular destinations include Western Australia’s spectacular Kimberley and Pilbara regions in the north, the Kennedy Ranges and Mt Augustus in the mid-west and the biodiversity of the state’s south.
The rest of Australia also offers much to see on tour, including extraordinary outback travel icons like Lake Eyre, the Flinders Ranges and the Nullarbor Plain. Off the Australian coast, Lord Howe Island and the Christmas, Cocos and Abrolhos Islands offer numerous opportunities to observe the abundance of birds, plants and animals within their native habitats.
Catering for lovers of the exotic and unusual, Coates Wildlife Tours also offer a varying schedule of tours to the most desirable natural hot-spots in the world, including the rain and cloud forests of Costa Rica, the unspoiled natural beauty of Bhutan and the drama of the African savannah.
Find out how much more rewarding the touring experience can be when you travel with a small group of like-minded people, who share your love for the natural world. Group sizes vary with each destination and trip type, but generally range between 6 and 14 passengers. Touring with a small group provides plenty of opportunities for laughter and story sharing, and paves the way to long-lasting friendships.
A holiday isn’t a holiday if there isn’t time to relax and reflect on the day’s adventures. When you travel with Coates there are no kitchen rosters to worry about at the end of a full day. It's our policy to provide crew members to carry out the campsite duties on camping tours - so there's no need for you to cook or wash dirty pots and pans. On camping tours you’ll have a small ‘dilly bag’ with your own plates and utensils to clean after your meal, but our crew do all of the hard work for you. Simply set up your tent and enjoy the sights and sounds of the night as you sit around the campfire, recapping the highlights of the day with your fellow travel companions.
A resourceful camp cook accompanies all safari tours with groups of seven or more. Your camp cook will ensure that fresh local produce and ingredients are used when available, whether you are traveling through the Australian outback or anywhere else around the world. You'll be pleasantly surprised at the variety and quality of the meals prepared by our cooks under what are sometimes difficult conditions.
Three meals each day plus morning tea and snacks are included in the price of your tour (unless otherwise specified - see tour itinerary for details).
If you have any special dietary requirements simply let us know when you book, our cooks are very experienced at adapting their tasty, nutritious meals to suit a variety of dietary needs.
Our dedicated naturalist guides have a wealth of knowledge and experience in outback travel and beyond. We go to great lengths to ensure all of our guides are approachable, friendly and willing to help – all of us here at Coates go above and beyond to ensure you are comfortable and entertained throughout your tour.
